The area around Malmédy and Robertville has become a household name for many because of its beautiful scenery, which, in addition to peace and relaxation, also has numerous hiking opportunities to offer.
Anyone who has been to eastern Belgium before knows that it is not an exaggeration to call this area a walking paradise. More than 1000 km of hiking trails were mapped out by the local tourist agencies. A new 11 km long walking road has been built, between the dams of Robertville (3 km from the campsite) and Bütgenbach. It is a sporty walking trail but not suitable for strollers. Starting point: "Parking des Bains" in Robertville. Directly from the campsite you can pick up several routes.

Plenty of beautiful viewpoints in the area,.....
Mountain bike sports are becoming a popular leisure activity. If you do not have a mountain bike yourself, we can always reserve one for you at the local rental company in Waimes: A.T.Bike. There are also mountain bikes for children and so-called "follow-up bikes" for rent. If you want to rent 5 or more bikes, they will be brought to the campsite with routes, helmet and a tyre slice. Recently you can also rent special recumbent bikes and electric bikes here. On the site www.eastbelgium.com you can download a number of GPS routes that also run along/near the campsite for free (choose on "GPS routes"). In the tourist office of Malmédy you can rent a GPS device.
Bicycles/Rental electric bikes
The campsite is located in a hilly area so it is not for everyone to cycle anywhere, but there are also a number of easy cycling routes, the so-called "Ravelroutes". These are cycle paths built over the former railway tracks. The maximum increase in these routes is 3%. As a result, these routes can be done for everyone. There are 3 routes starting 3 km from the campsite. (from the campsite it is downhill to the beginning of the Ravelroute ,back to the campsite it is uphill).
From these routes you have beautiful views of the area. There is a route from Waimes towards St. Vith, a route from Waimes to Trois Ponts, and a route from Waimes to Monschau. In reception you can borrow a card with these routes during your stay. More info: www.eastbelgium.com
In addition, there is the signposted bicycle network "Velotour" (junction system). These are beautiful routes (with increases and falls), but here you need a good condition (or an electric bike) for this. From April to early October you can rent electric bikes at various locations in the region.
Spotting birds and other animals on and around our campsite
Due to the wide variety of vegetation, there are many different bird species on and around the campsite. Special is eg. de Rode kite, grouse, water starling, mountain whistler, short-beaked tree crawler, black stork, wasp thief, magpie and grey clawier. Also in the evening we sometimes have a visit from two foxes who come to see if there is some goodies to be found. Of course, deer, rabbits and squirrels are spotted at the campsite at night when it is quiet.
